Unit Overview
Have you ever been in a situation where you are confused because a conflict arose between you and someone else and you are not quite sure why? The situation just "seems" wrong to you and you find yourself feeling angry, offended or even betrayed. Or your expectations of what should be happening are totally different than what you are used to? Take a look at the video of Mater and his unfortunate cultural experience.
Sometimes we just shrug it off and accept that it was because of a difference of culture, and don't give it much more thought. Or we experience varying degrees and durations of culture shock.
However, since business is becoming more global, and the interactions of many cultures are happening more often than they used to, it is important to improve our intercultural understanding and seek to reduce the amount and duration of the culture shock experienced in our business interactions. When we are able to learn and adapt to the situation, and show awareness to the other culture in the interaction, we can many times improve the outcome.
